Designer showers are now commonplace in homes and modern apartments. For what is usually an affordable upgrade, people can now furnish their bathrooms with showers that feature dual shower heads of varying heights and single, adjustable height, shower heads. These features are, in part, meant to solve the issue of shower height completely. Just as individuals have different tastes when it comes to water pressure and spray type, they often have an optimum shower height that can be achieved. On single head showers, accommodations can be made at the time of installation that will allow for individual tastes and desired shower heights. Shower height can also be adjusted with goose neck attachments that can usually be applied to any shower head to provide further flexibility.
For many people the ideal shower height also involves an ideal valve height. Typically, individuals prefer a valve that is easily at arm's length standing up. This is usually installed in a situation where the shower is not a tub/shower and is built from the ground up. Shower heights are determined from the rough ground before instillation of the tile and shower or tub base. Many contractors use a standard measurement of 84", which is seven feet from the original floor. This shower height allows for several inches both from the tub/shower base, and several inches for the drop elbow of the shower head. Valves can be placed at any height in between, but tub/showers often dictate that the valve for the shower is the same valve for the tub and placed at a low, bathtub height. In any case, these measurements are always subject to the personal preferences of the user. Contractors can install shower height to almost any shower height dictated by the homeowner. The measurements are determined using the rough floor and ceiling and must allow for fixture and tile heights. The tile is placed around the valves, faucet and shower heads so it is the final step after all measurements have been taken and the plumbing has been fitted to specified shower height. This being the case, shower height is an important decision to make early on in the design and planning of a shower instillation or bathroom renovation. |
